Cirrus Access Professional Pilot Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the Cirrus Access Program?
A. Potential Cirrus customers who have no aviation experience will have the ability to obtain a personal flight instructor/pilot to help them with all the duties related to owning and flying their Cirrus aircraft during their first year of ownership. UND Aerospace Foundation has partnered with Cirrus Design to offer this unique program to future Cirrus owners. As a Cirrus Professional Pilot (CPP) you will provide flight instruction and pilot services to your Cirrus client.
Q. What is UND Aerospace?
A. UND Aerospace, an international leader in collegiate and contract aviation education, includes the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota and the UND Aerospace Foundation. The UND Aerospace Foundation (UNDAF) is responsible for the hiring and management of the Cirrus Professional Pilots hired for the Cirrus Access Program.
Q. Will I have to relocate?
A. During the application process you will choose what states you are willing to relocate to. The more states that you are willing to relocate to will increase your chances of being placed with a Cirrus owner.
Q. Will I have to give up my current job to be in the Cirrus Access pool?
A. No, your employment while you are in the pool is not in conjunction with UNDAF. You will be required to resign your current position once we select you from the pool and place you with a client.
Q. Do I have to sign a contract to be employed by UNDAF?
A. Yes, a 12 month contract is required to be signed once UNDAF takes you from the pool of applicants and places you with a client. Once you have been placed in the Cirrus Access pool, you will have the opportunity to review the contact before being placed.
Q. What happens after the 12 month contract is up?
A. Once the 12 month contract has been completed you will be put back into the Cirrus Access pool of CPPs. In certain cases the client may choose to retain the CPP, at that time the CPP is no longer an employee of UNDAF.
Q. What type of benefits does UNDAF provide the CPP?
A. UNDAF provides Blue Cross/Blue Shield health benefits. UNDAF will pay the full premium each month. Individual or Family coverage plans are provided.
Q. What is the salary?
A. $30,000 - $35,000 plus health benefits are provided for the 12 month contract. The salary range is to compensate for differences in cost of living for where you will be based with your Cirrus Access Client(s).
Q. Is the initial training paid for?
A. Yes, once UNDAF selects a CPP from the pool of applicants they will travel to Duluth, MN and complete 5 days of training before they take delivery of the airplane with the client. 3 days of training will be in a Cirrus aircraft and 2 days will be for customer service training. All travel and training will be at UND Aerospace Foundation’s expense.
Q. How many clients will I have?
A. As a Cirrus Professional Pilot you will be assigned to the owner’s specific aircraft. At the time of purchase, the Cirrus owner can select a total of 3 individuals for you to conduct flight training for in the owner’s aircraft.
